When I'm playing The Sims 4 on my Mac, the game would randomly freeze. Then the game would usually return to normal, however sometimes my computer would just randomly restart after a freeze.

It's the known issue with your Mac and the game unfortunately. I've merged your post into this ongoing thread. There is no 100% fix. Does it happen in all worlds or only specific ones?

You could try a complete uninstall and reinstall of the game.

I am no longer experiencing problems. I have disabled my work-arounds (Parallels VM disabling the Metal API) over a month ago and continue to be problem free. My theory is that the issue resolved with one of the Big Sur (11.x) point releases. I'm running 11.6 right now.

Please note that I only play Magic Arena. But, I believe I was experiencing the same problems as EA game players.

Hello! 

So a few days ago my game started unexpectedly quitting. I couldn't pin point an exact action in the game that would trigger it - it quits while paused, while in play, while in neighborhood view, etc. 

I removed all mods and CC and started with a fresh install and the game is still quitting unexpectedly.

Here's the steps I've taken so far to troubleshoot. 

• Removed all mods/cc
• Repaired game (by left clicking in Origin)
• Repaired Origin with the Reset Origin tool
• Disabled Origin in-game
• Run the game in windowed mode
• Reduced graphics quality
• Unchecked Retina Display
• Turned off Google Drive backup
• Removed entire Sims 4 folder and let the game generate a new/vanilla instance upon startup
• Checked both the game and my mac for available updates (none)
• Turned the computer off for 10+ minutes

The only thing I haven't done is update my graphics drivers, because when I download the AMD drivers for Mac the folder only has .exe files (wtf AMD?!), so it can't be run on a Mac.

Here's my specs: 

• MacBook Pro 16-in, 2019
• Monterey 12.3.1
• 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
• 377 GB memory available
• AMB Radeon Pro 5300M 4GB

I am using an external monitor - Samsung curved monitor.

Any help?

When you let the game generate a whole new Sims 4 folder, you didn't move over any of the contents from your moved Sims 4 folder did you? How long did you manage to play a brand new, clean game for before it crashed? Which world were you in and when did it crash?

Oh wow, thank you! I will post in that thread as well and try some of the workarounds suggested. 

To answer your question, I was in Evergreen Harbor, Willow Creek, and Henford-on-Bagely as far as I remember. I removed my entire Sims 4 folder and let the game generate an all new clean version. The game would crash between 5 and 20 minutes of play time.
