Re: PLEASE HELP!! Black box over household/lot, unable to play at all.

@Devyldogg

Thanks. I've merged your post into this ongoing thread for the current issues with the 2020 27" iMacs as they are really struggling to play the game since the September patch. I'd be interested to see if other users with this specific Mac also have the black squares.

The black square is interesting, I've also seen that reported by users with the 16" MacBook Pros which have similar, but not identical, AMD GPUs and by other users on different setups.

This user also reported it several months ago https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/Black-Square-Over-Lot/td-p/9310893 They shared their save with me and I could also see it. Clicking on the lot under the black square and then exiting back to the map screen resolved it for me. Could you try that?

Hmm, this is very interesting. I posted this because I originally was unable to find anyone with the same issue. I wasn't sure I'd get any responses so I really appreciate it! I tried loading the lot beneath it with the goth family and exiting the map so then I tried opening the lot below once again and exiting the game entirely. That also didn't work, in fact it deleted my saved game Frown the goth family replaced that file, so I deleted it. However now I seem to be able to start over completely and then maybe the box will no longer appear? I shall see. It has been pretty frustrating since this was already a new game I had to start to get rid of some technical issues before. I just don't know what seems to be going wrong.

Thanks again.

EDIT: I'd like to add if you meant clicking on the actual box to load that lot, that also did not work, it didn't do anything.

Thanks! Can you please upload the lasCrash report too? It has numbers in the filename that are relevant. The Config.log file would be great too as it details your hardware and settings in more detail Standard smile

The Sims 4 keeps crashing on macOS (2020 iMac 27-inch)

★★★★ Novice

Since purchasing my new iMac in September, I've been unable to play The Sims. I don't believe this is due to an update, but some kind of bug in relation to the new AMD graphics and manipulating camera controls in-game. I've reset my game folder to run a clean game, repaired the game through Origin, disabled Origin In-Game and tested using variations to my graphics settings. When the game crashed I am unable to use my mouse to interact with the game, it's locked up and frozen in place sometimes showing a loading cursor which isn't moving. I am able to force-quit the application, but the game has not generated a LastCrash report.

My iMac specs are as follows and I have attached my Config.log;

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)

3.8GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7

32GB 2667MHz DDR4

AMD Radeon Pro 5700 8GB

macOS Catalina 10.15.7
