I am having the same issues and have taken the same steps. I have played sims for years, and am having a little heartbreak not being able to play my cherished world. I am a smart person but feel dumb that I can not fix this.

I haven't been able to load Sims 4 on my Mac since Nov 11 2019. It tries to launch but the screen splits, shows half of my desktop and the other half is black and then it freezes. That or the whole screen is black and it freezes. I tried to repair the game on origin. Didn't work. I deleted and reinstalled Sims 4. It still isn't working. I don't have any mods. I do have quite a few expansion packs, all were downloaded and played without issue prior to this problem.
Info about my Mac
iMac Retina 5K, 27-in
Processor: 4 GHz Intel Core i7

@AbC6342a6394403 I've merged your posts with the master thread on this issue. As of now, the only solution is to update your OS to High Sierra, although the game will run better on Mojave or Catalina.

I recently purchased and installed the new university expansion pack and had to download an update of the sims 4. I'm not 100% sure if the new update meant download the legacy edition but I'm assuming it did. The game won't run at all. The sims 4 icon bounces and the screen goes black. Then my desktop appears again but with a smaller resolution (the words are huge). Then tthe color wheel comes on, I attempt to click on the the sims 4 icon or any other icon. Pretty much the game becomes unresponsive and freezes up my whole computer and I have to power it off.
I saw downloading catalina may be the solution so I'm trying that now. I have already uninstalled and reinstall origin multiple times and did a whole uninstall and reinstall of the sims 4. I've tried changing the language as mention in another post in a different message board.
Anything else I'm missing?
