iOS and iMessage

How do we reach out to players we don't know or aren't in our contacts to ask to be a friend? I have a lot of emails but I wouldn't know if they play the game and I don't want to send an invite that goes to everyone in my contacts. Most are from other games, like Elder Scrolls but I no longer recognize the addresses. I know we go through the App Store and I sent one invite to my husband and he got it but I have no idea how to locate other gamers info to send an invite. :/
