How do I build for war

How do I start building for a war? I am new to this. 

I already belong to a club.

When a war starts you do war deliveries that gets you attack items.

What exactly do you mean? Strategy how to build the city in the most effective way?

upgrade storage, shops,facfories, save lots of simoleons, have plenty of tokens and create at least one feeder city, that might be still not enough for exhaustive war

I want to add to this question with some of my own.

How can i unlock Gold war chests?  Today i did my largest investment of time and resources into the war and I'm at a mere 4,100 pts.  It's very unlikely I can even reach 8,000 to get the last silver war chest.  If the Gold chest is at 16,000 (per estimate) I don't see how its attainable using my current approach.

I am using the "fish attack" level 2 which does 770 damage and uses 7 war items, and also another attack which does 300 damage using 3 war items.

Any tips and and advice will be appreciated as Club wars is new to me and my club.
