You need to be a master mayor, and you need the right site. Try for the ciries that have 2 highway entrances, and not just 1 offramp. You'll be drowning in taxis and need a smooth road network.

Tourism is dependent on a constantly synced region. If you can't tell your neighbor that tourists are done in your city and heading back to theirs, then they stay in your city. If all cities lose a sync 'heartbeat' (which is what we're seeing now) you will get no tourists - even with an international airport. When sync is lost, anything that comes from outside or happens outside your city will not happen. This includes sending money or resources, working on a 'great work,' and ferries/trains/planes/whatever else connects you to the outside.

I posted on this just a few seconds ago - here's the video that shows all the 'sync-received' traffic (which makes up 100% of tourist arrivals and departures) trapped inside the city. Sending local traffic (commuters, service vehicles, etc...) can be sent immediately, but won't show up in their destination city until sync is back up.

In short, tourism cities will hit possibly game-breaking 'bumps' until server congestion is resolved...

I think there is an underlying isssue with the low wealth tourists failing to populate like they should... if you have a casino that has a few low wealth attraction rooms, then the tourists should actually show up.

It's a bug guys. Has nothing to do with having hotels or not having hotels. Going from 86k a day in revenue to -12k in the matter or minutes isn't right. Even IGN said it's bugged on their show they had on today.

Hopefully Maxis is doing something about this because my casino city was by far and away the funnest city I've played yet.

I noticed that once I started placing education in my city all hell broke loose. I went from 20k/day from a High Tourist attraction and 8k from a medium attraction to -12k on each right after I placed a university and Grade School. Before that I simply focused on low/medium industry/domestic/residential and everything was easy.

I was about 12k per hour in the green with only 10% tax on each sector. I had no garbage, I did have crime but it was under control and hardly any fires or sickness. As soon as I plopped down that University it did the opposite of what it was supposed to do(Educated sims will be less likely to start fires, get sick, injure themselves and less likely to resort to crime but at a price -- more demands and being aware of pollution). Just one of the things promised by plopping a Univesity came to: More demanding citicizens(And increased land value was a mixed bag! I had a house right beside my grade school in the red and this was with a park there to boot!). These sims seemed to get increasingly more dumb the more "intelligent" they got. Fires broke out everywhere, people were getting sick left, right and center and crime shot through the roof! Tourism just so happened to be the first to take the hit. As soon as I took the change from a medium density city to a high density tourists lost all interest. I had to shut down my airport, shut down my tourist attractions and shut down a hell of a lot of my public transport just to break even.

I had everything in that city. Police HQ, Hospital, Firebrigade HQ, everything. Very rarely would my tabs flash yellow until I plopped down that university.

Don't get me wrong; I enjoy a challenge, it's the whole point of SimCity and the reason why you keep playing on when you max your area, but this just seems broken.

Also, my city had 200k sims at this point.

whats the most frustrating is the poor math attached to the tourist attractions that don't offer shows...

Eiffel Tower and the Empire State = stated both were getting $20k profit every HR

now go to your balance sheet - City Specialty row the expenses DOMINATE the income...

There has to be some sort of calculation glitch going on, because if this is the case, there is no reason to build a tourist attraction that doesn't offer a show or sporting event - I notice you do in fact receive the funds stated when clicking on the attraction

anyone else notice this?

It's definitely a bug. I've tried to run a 4 total tourists cities. Every time using a slightly different strategy. I've payed attention to all factors - like trafic, crime activity, garbage, microbs, etc.

The real issue though is just next - after some period of time tourists just stop coming.

Actually its not entirely true - they are coming. In fact there are a lot of them - BUT the game doesn't recognise them as a tourists. That's weird, but they are displaying with white color on a tourism map, and they are always unhappy - saying smth like "there are no hotels" (when there are plenty), or "this city is boring" (when there are a ton of casinos and tourism buildings). This is like a desease - all tourists become "white", and they stop visiting places - the game doesn't recognise them as a tourists anymore.

Next time pay attention to it - you'll notice, a ton of people came from a train for example, the are all white on the tourism map, and they are all saying "city is boring" or "no hotels, leaving", and they just trying to leave as soon as they came - than you're screwed.

This is a crucial bug for me right now, because every other specialisation is pretty boring, and gambling/tourism is just bugged.

BTW the number of tourists isn't formed by the number of other cities in the region, or by their population - it's completely independent. Tourists are not inhabitants of other cities in the region, they are like a global resourse. So in theory you can have just 1 successful tourists city in the region.

Gambling city has become my obsession and a nightmare at the same time. I just can't get myself to play any else specialization anymore (played electronics, oil, trade - all piece a cake), and I can't play gambling while this bug is present.

Sadly, but for now it's enough Simcity for me.

This problem seems to be really old.... so why am I having it now, after 2.1. Had a really good city: 2x gambling hall, 1x sci fi, 1x sleek, gambling co hq with gaming addition... and suddenly all the tourists disappeared and I'm shutting down services. This is basically going to ruin an entire singleplayer region.

A fix

If you see your visitors per day start dropping, it is time to demolish hotels, it seems that there is a bug with hotels trapping tourists. After demolishing you'll see an influx of tourists from your train/bus/airport/ferry stations. However hotels will trap tourists again, so you'll see this constantly and you'll need to demolish hotels every 2-3 days or something.

Have already destroyed the hotels, but I shouldn't have to. I shouldn't have to go through all the commercial buildings, demolishing more than half. I shouldn't be fixing problems I don't create myself and have almost no influence over except for being able to destroy when it goes wrong. Where is the tutorial that tells me "Oh by the way, we messed up programming this engine, so when it goes south, and it will, have your bulldozer ready"

The first post in this thread is how old? And it still isn't fixed?!

Am now going back to stutter vision (turning off more buildings) in the vain hope that it's salvageable... I doubt it though.
