Mailbox broken

I've been playing Real Racing 3 for 3 or 4 years and have never seen a message in my mailbox. I'm logged into Google Play thing, whatever it's called. Sometimes I'll get a notification on my phone that somebody has beaten me in a in a RR3 race but when I tap on the notification Real Racing 3 opens as usual with no indication of which race it was, who it was, etc. When I look in the mailbox, there are never any messages.  I've played with this account profile on several devices and this issue has always been the same. Basically the mailbox is useless and broken for me. Why? Am I the only one?
