My Plants vs Zombies heroes app will not load

My PVZ heroes app won't load, have cleared the app several times and turned off the phone, and restarted and it keeps showing Connection error and try again.  Do not want to delete the app and reinstall because I don't want to lose all my progress and cards.

Unfortunately the only way I have found is to set your phone in airplane mode.

Not a fix, but a temporary workaround.
