Imitator at different level?

Just won a battle against a person using an imitator for their electric current. The main plant was level 9 but the imitator was level 5, can anyone explain this? My damn screen shot didn't work so I can't show you, sorry!! Thanks 😁

Im pretty sure that imitators dont have levels.
