Hi, @seaspiritnw Do you use any mods or cc? Specifically, those that may interfere with UI or the Rewards (or 'perks') store itself? Many have updates..
If you don't use mods.. The License is attainable only after lvl 5 (see Carls Sims 4 Guide for more)
- Level 5 - Energy decays less while using the Seance table. Better chance of positive interaction when speaking with spectres. Also allows you to make a Seance circle anywhere on the ground and unlocks the Paranormal Investigator license
- Sacred Candle is an item you make (as well as a reward):
- Interact with a friendly ghost and offer them a homemade gift, such as cookies or any other items you can craft, you may also gain some Wraith Wax you can make the candles for yourself. You simply need to click on it in your inventory and select Make a Sacred Candle.
I have no connection to EA, am an Avid Mods/CC user, but don't make them
Simsonic Weebly, also Incorporating the Mod Tracker - KatAnubis5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Sashas0nic You may not be aware of it but there is an "expensive" (3000 points!) reward store "Paranormal Investigator License" that you *can* buy before getting to Level 5. (I've seen a YouTuber get it, for instance, when they had a level 3. And my Sim, who has no level at all, shows it as available to her) But if you want Guidry to give it to you for *free*, you have to have level 5. (Besides, rewards you're not eligible for still show up, but they're greyed out and when you mouse over them it explains why they're not available.)
It's odd that the person is not getting the candle to show up in rewards (500 points) if they have the pack installed. It doesn't show if you only have the update and not the stuff pack, but it should show up if you have the pack installed.
Hopefully someone can help them see them in the rewards section, since they've already done the repair I would have suggested. I do have a few cc items that are mostly new as this is a brand new laptop I have only had 2 weeks. I had to remove all of it to get it to work which is a bit disappointing. I got the license and candles and put some of my cc back. I was already level 5 medium as well..
- @KatAnubis I had to take all my cc out, which is mostly new..new laptop, new cc..it worked after that but that's a bit disappointing as all of my other packs work fine with the cc. I did get the candles and license before putting my cc back.

Yes, am aware of the cost etc (and the availability of it) just posted some info from Carls Sims Guide, didn't want to presume they used cc, but figured it would be the issue, however. @KatAnubis
@seaspiritnw Glad you got them.. 🙂 However, As stated: "Do you use any mods or cc? Specifically, those that may interfere with UI or the Rewards (or 'perks') store itself? Many have updates.. " I'd also add many cc items may have broken or are no longer totally compatible.
Keeping broken cc in your game, isn't recommended as it is bound to cause other issues.. For example, the sacred candles need to be re-purchased as they run out..
To sort the cc by culling or the 50/50 method is the best idea.
edit as was on mbl before:
For more on the 50/50 etc & cc/mod usecc/mods check my post here on maintaining your game.
SpoilerYou can fast-track this procedure a bit by deleting known broken mods/cc and get the updates *more on that in the spoiler below..
- Remove the mods from your folder to the desktop
- Delete your localthumbcache file found in your TS4 folder [Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4]
- Repair game, by right clicking the cog near 'play'
- Run the game, to see if it runs ok, now without any mods/cc
- note: use a vanilla / new game for this process, don't run your old one as it would 'strip' the cc off your sims
- Now, if all went well, try transferring one cc folder at a time. This helps narrow down which is broken.
- Trying the game each time, you do the process.. to see if it loads your game without issue
- Before starting your game each time, also delete the localthumbcache file from the sims 4 folder.
Spoiler- Apart from culling your folders one by one, or the 50/50 method, to narrow down the broken cc or mod, that is all you can do, (restarting and checking your game each time) you'll simply need to find the broken mod/cc it and remove it
- Mods & cc are well known to cause various in-game issues please check for updates to them / where you found them; do this also > after any sims update or adding a game pack,
- Simsonic Weebly Mod Tracker has a list for people who use mods/cc; and updates on which ones are broken or now updated
- Also the EA Forums do a regular post for broken mods / cc, & maintained by LuthienRising.
- I also use Sims 4 Studio for batch fixes, as it solves a lot of problems in bulk (but not all.) It's also available for Mac. And is updated frequently, with pack relevant bug fixes.
- KatAnubis5 years agoSeasoned Ace@seaspiritnw The unfortunate thing about CC/Mods is that it often causes problems with new packs and updates. Mods are the worst, but occasionally CC does as well.
It's usually a specific package that is the problem. You say you don't have much, then it wouldn't be too difficult to figure out. The more CC/mods you have, the harder it is and the 50/50 method is recommended.
PugLove88 recommends this:
"1) Move the Mods Folder to your desktop
2) Delete localthumbcache.package file in the game folder.
3) Fix you game in Origin by logging in and go to Library, then right-click on The Sims 4 and choose the "Repair Game" option from the list. Wait until Origin finishes repairing all your packs and not just the base game.
4) Now, when you turn on your game again, it will create a new mods folder that will be empty. Check to see if your game is now working without mods/CC.
5) Now you can try adding back items from your Mods folder one at a time checking your game each time to see which item is causing your game to not work properly. If you have a lot of items, you can try the 50/50 Method. "
One of the important parts is the "delete the localthumbcache.package". You'll want to do that each time before you put a different mod/CC in so that the game doesn't "remember" the last ones you've tried.
And as SashasOnic mentioned, leaving broken mods/cc in your game may cause other problems that may make your game unplayable later on. It's best to sort out and remove what is causing even a small problem. Sometimes corruption in a game builds up until the save is ruined and not recoverable.
