I had this problem also and the thing that worked for me was to right click in the game and press update and then I opened it again and it played

I have this issue too but I fixed it. All I did was make it start in windowed mode. Right click on the game in your library and select Game Properties. Go to Advanced Launch Options tab and add in '-w' (no quotes) toCommand line arguments and save. Load up game.

What worked for me was to open game properties on origin and disabling the Special Edition Items pack.

all i did was reset my origin and then reinstalled origin onto my mac. then afterwards it redownloaded all my games. when i went to play medieval it told me there was an update to play the game. so i updated the game and the problem was gone! i hope this works for thsoe of you who still have trouble.
