[The Sims 2] The Sims 2 is not compatible with Windows 8? [ Edited ]

I'm having an extremely difficult time getting any help or answers to my questions from EA, I know this is the Sims 3 forum but I'm hoping that someone will still help me out. 
I'm trying to update my computer to Windows 8 but it says that several of my Sims 2 EPs are not compatible and that I need to go to the "app website" for the Sims 2 base for help (that was extraordinairly unhelpful) so here I am. 
When I update to Windows 8 will I still be able to play Sims 2. Is there a way to fix the compatability issue?

Have you already tried to play in Compatibility Mode as explained here?
