Sims Medieval won't update on mac

So I've downloaded the sims medieval and it starts to launch, asks me to update and comes up with this: The request timed out. (-1001). I'm really not sure how to fix this at all. The launcher also doesn't have all of the display and icons that it should have, it only half launches if that makes sense. I was wondering if anyone had similar problems?
