Just hit this bug while replaying the game on iPad Air and iOS 12.2. It is easily reproducible.

Portal Combat has not worked on iPhone or iPads for years. Bought new iPad this month and immediately check to see if PVZ Protal combat would work... and it still doesn’t. 

I tried to register a bug report with EA and it bumps you back to the “Community Help” which is basically these notes. 

This is lousy customer service and a total lack of technical support. I expected better from EA!

6 years later, this is still an issue. Bug report leads here. This truly is infuriating. Why won't anyone fix this, who needs to be talked to?

It has been 7 years and this issue still persist. It amazes me that a child could have started middle school and graduated from high school before EA patched a very obvious error in one of their games. The amount of incompetence is staggering, and my brand loyalty to EA is all but gone.
