I guess my putting MassEffectLauncher.exe in bold in the post directly prior to yours was wasted effort then... mileysad:

Heya, what working for me:
- Execute MassEffectConfig.exe
- Change the settings for your normal use (maybe a default resolution bugged)
- I changed to Windowed Mode to test (and changed in-game later)
Then worked after that...

I've tried installing from disk to Windows 8 (just got an Alienware PC so I can actually play stuff) and when I click Play in the launch screen it just goes to the Configure utility, then won't work ("The program has stopped working" sort of message). mileysad: Help!!!

It wasn't wasted effort, it just didn't work. That's why I thought maybe running the executable for the ACTUAL game in compatibility mode would work.

My own solution (which works to start ME1 from within my Origin game library on my Win8 Pro/64-bit machine) is slightly different, but there's an excellent write-up, marked as the [SOLUTION], at Post #4 here: "Patch 1.02 Implementation - Not Found Error - Run as Admin doesn't work".

I leave a lil recap :

Run this program in compatibility mode for: (Activated : Widows XP (SP3) ) >
Run this program as an administrator
And Apply (:

My ME1 shortcut>properties does not have a compatibility mode because it is not an .exe file. It is a URL file, how do i change this? Why cant i change the compatibility of the file? Is anyone else having trouble changing the compability and/or finding the masseffect.exe file?
BTW, mine is not working like everybody else. it loads for a second and goes away shortly.

That isn't the right file, then.
You can always go directly to the source. Are you using Origin or Steam?
