Can't play head to head

I have two controllers, both of which are signed in.  I want to play head to head with my son, but when I go to "play now", I there is only one controller highlighted to pick a team.  How do I resolve this so that we can both play at the same time?

I'm not 100% sure but I think head to head refers to online games . You probably want to select the play now tile instead . I hope this helped
