Troubleshooting for Playstation 4 and 5

Clearing Cache:

PlayStations don’t have a cache, but the simple “turning it off and back on again” trick can sometimes work wonders for any and all issues.

To really make sure all temporary files are removed, you can cold boot your PlayStation:

  1. Hold down the Power button until you hear the powering down beeps.
  2. Once your PlayStation has powered down, unplug it from the electrical outlet.
  3. Wait two minutes.
  4. Reconnect to the electrical outlet.
  5. Power on your PlayStation.

Make sure your system is up to date

First, make sure that you’ve fully updated your game and your PlayStation.

You’ll find information on the latest system software version, and instructions for updating your PlayStation on support.playstation.com.

Restart your PlayStation

  • On PlayStation 5,either hold the power button down until you hear the powering down beeps, or choose the Power option from the menu and then select Power Off PS5. Unplug it, then disconnect the power cord. Wait 30 seconds then plug it in and power it up again.
  • If you’re on PlayStation 4, touch the power button on the front until it beeps twice. Unplug it, then disconnect the power cord. Wait 30 seconds then plug it in again.

Do you have PlayStation®Plus?

You need to have PlayStation®Plus to access the online features of your game.

Not sure if you have Plus? If you see a gold plus symbol next to your account name when you’re logged in on your PlayStation, then you’ve got it.

Check your error codes

If you see an error code when you try to connect to a game, search PlayStation Support for more info on the error and what you can do to try to fix it.

Check for corrupted downloads or update files

Sometimes corrupted downloads or game update files stored on your system can cause problems. To rule this out, delete these files for the game you are trying to connect to, and then try again.
