iOS game progress syncing

I am using an iPhone 5s and an iPad 3 both running iOS 7.1.1 and cannot get my progress to sync between the two devices even though all gamecenter achievements for the game are identical on both devices. The ability to sync progress would be great since I am sure I am not the only person with multiple devices and want to be able to use each of them the same as a bunch of other games that sync flawlessly.
