[Wing Commander 4] Game does not load [ Edited ]

To whom it might concern,

My name is Alex and I downloaded the Wing commander 4 (the price of Freedom) game today from the Origin Portal (order number: <removed for security reasons>).

Unfortunately I cannot get the game to Launch. When I try to load it, a seperate window appears stating: VirtualProtect () failed.

Can you please let me know how to fix this issue? Is this a problem with my PC? If you cannot suggest a fix, CAn EA refund my purchase since it does not work?

Destroy All Enemy Ships

Start the game by typing Wc4 -chicken instead of the usual wc4 and when you fly press Alt+Ctrl+w and all enemy ships in the area will be destroyed.

Destroy Target

To use this cheat, launch the game with the command "wc4 -chicken". During flight target any craft and press Ctrl-W and the target will be instantly destroyed!

Hidden Menu

While flying, press Alt-O for a special menu.

How do I get assistance with Wing Commander 1?  Looking for a way to either configure keyboard settings or find out what is the existing keyboard setup.  It's not in the manual and of course, it's not listed in the ea games area.

  I forgot how frustrating some of these older games were and how little you can customize things.

Interesting isn't it? Often we just nostalgically remember the good things about these games.

Some aspects, such as the gameplay, the story and the setting, carry themselves well even after all the time that has passed. Other aspects ultimately are very dated and it shows.

I think I speak for all the people who got the game from humble bundle.

The game does not run, and there appear to be no solutions.

The error is VirtualProtect () failed.

The following steps have no effect

- Comparability in XP mode

- Comparability in 95 mode with limited colors

- Re-installing codecs

- Using the "WC4DVD" fix that's previously been linked. The fix states WC4DVD is the wrong size and refuses to run

- The game has a small 672 byte update that refuses to download

I agree.  Same problem here.  I have a feeling this is common for newer computers.

Workaround - FIX

RUN Origin ..as Adminiistrator. (right Click Mouse)

Tested on W7 64bit.
