Syndicate (PC, 2012) Hangs on Launch

When I try to launch Syndicate it shows the progress bar but then when that's filled it doesn't do anything. The game is open but it doesn't show anything and task manager lists it as "Not responding". I've tried running as administrator. I've tried running with compatibility settings set to Windows 7. I've tried disabling the Origin overlay. It doesn't work. My BIOS and GPU drivers are fully updated.

This may be related to SecuROM no longer being supported on Windows 10 systems as mentioned in the thread here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/EA-General-Questions/Syndicate-2012-Crashes-on-Launch/td-p/5783177

Well that thread you linked doesn’t help. Running the compatibility troubleshooter doesn’t fix it.
Also, it works on my other Windows 10 PC which has older hardware. I want the game to work on my newer PC too so I can play co-op though.
