Knights of the Old Republic1 and 2 crashing

Immediately after character creation KotOR 1 and 2 crash. Is this a known issue? Any fixes?

try to turn off frame buffer and soft shadows in the graphic settings.

otherwise your monitor doesnt support the resolution, try to change your resolution ingame or update drivers for your graphic card and monitor

try to set the compatibility to win 7 or xp and run as administator.
