Do try the alt-tabbing.

If you try editing your registry, you absolutely have to back up the registry first as it is easy to make a mistake and break things.

I'm not even getting anything to alt-tab out of. It never gets to the point to run the game. Just states the DLL is missing in an EA installer-like window.

Ah, yeah sorry, it was a month or so ago that I fixed it so I forgot exactly HOW I got it to run in the first place, and I do believe I managed that by editing the registry to activate windowed mode (editing the value), but like @EA_Barry said, back it up before hand.
