Dungeon Keeper 2 No cursor on main menu

★★★ Newbie

Hello everyone, I have downloaded Dungeon Keeper 2 one of my favorite old games. SO, I double click the desktop icon for DK2 and the first screen comes up followed by the hand of the bullfrog logo where it is then frozen. I tab out and back in and it starts to play the intro video and then goes to a loading screen followed by the main menu BUT from there I can't go anywhere there is no cursor and I can't choose any options or get any response from the keyboard. My laptop well surpasses the system requirements. I've tried many different compatibility modes at this point I would just need to contact someone and speak to them in turn getting it to work and if it won't work I would just like my money back.

Sorry to see that you are having issues, can you try turning off the Origin In-game Overlay.

-Click on “Origin” located at the top-left corner of the window and go to “Application Settings”.

-In the next menu, click on “More” and then  click on “Origin In-Game”.

-Disable the Origin In-Game Overlay by moving the slider.

@ikillforfun69 Have you tried a clean boot to see if that helps:  https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/FAQ/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/

You may find an answer there. Personally i have no troubles with DK 1 or 2, but my games were bought from GOG and they do the impossible to make sure that the old games get a new life. I am not sure why EA doesn't use that version on Origin, too, as they sell DK there and they've worked together with GOG to make sure that the old games that are selling there are in top form and compatible with the modern OS (they have Ultima, Wing Commander and quite a few other titles, all fully working, without hustle)

When it comes to really old games (EA's included), GOG is the best option. They've specialised in ressurecting old games and they work with a rather imppressive number of big names (Bethesda, 2K, Activision, Ubi and so on). So when it comes to classics, i prefer them. They constantly update their release to make sure that the games will continue to work on the new operating systems.

I do not work for EA and i am not associated with the company in any way. I am a player just like you, trying to help wherever i can.I will not answer to any unsolicited PM.

GOG is not an Option, They release just the english versions of all Games, i played this in german and i dont get that feelings back when i play this in english.

that ORIGN fix isnt working for me becaust i use the original Game i bought 15 years ago.

I'm also not willing to buy it again, I already own it.

Otherwise there are no problems, I just do not see a mouse curser

It seems a bit confusing that an old game such as DK2 would conflict with any other program on any current GEN computer. Also, seeing as how the game takes what seems to be little or no space and requires hardware so old to use, there should be absolutely no reason that this game or any other game of that time period for that matter needs a "Clean Boot." I just purchased this game in ORIGIN and would like to have an actual solution to this issue, or at the very least, a full refund and a statement removing this clearly busted app from the ORIGIN marketplace. All negativity aside, I have nothing but fond memories of DK2 from my youth and would really love to be able to play this game unhindered. My old Gateway computer from when I was a child blasted through that game's requirements and brought me a whole summer of joy and fond memories. PLZ HELP ME!

*UPDATE* After doing a bit more research I discovered a solution that actually works from me! All I had to do was change the display resolution in my display settings to 1024x768, as suggested by user @ZenekSzybkoreki . Worked wonders for me, looking forward to some nostalgic gameplay. CHEERS!
