Both Red Alert 2 and Yuris Revenge will not run on windows 11

★★★ Newbie

I get a launcher window showing both Red Alert 2 and Yuri's revenge.  I get a flash of a black screen and then back to the launcher.  If I click on the game again the launcher goes away and the game shows as docked with the black screen.  This is a new install on Windows 11.  Is there something I can do to get them running properly?  I am getting no response to a trouble report to EA, is that normal?  Are they really selling games that they know will not run and doing nothing about it?  I had rather pay more for stuff that works.

i had the same issue and i went and played with the compatibility tab of the exe file itself

when it was on windows XP it worked fine and i enjoyed a couple of games

when i read your post i went to see what was the exact settings i did so i can help you but it now shows a black screen with sounds only in the back ground

i think the answer is there and i'll have to keep changing the choices in the compatibility tab till i reach another optimum  work around

i totally agree with you that EA should work on this since they are selling the games again other wise don't sell them or force me to go to an older windows version just to play my old games

that i just purchased

I have both programs running now.  I used the compatibility troubleshooter.  Turns out the programs are installed with compatibility set to Windows 7, and the troubleshooter recommended Windows XP, service pack 3.  I'm pretty sure this should have been set by the install procedures from EA.

Specific steps:

I went to microsoft and looked for "Make older apps or programs compatible with Windows".  It said

"Try running the compatibility troubleshooter:

  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Run programs made for previous versions of Windows and select it in the results.

  2. Select Next, select the program you're having trouble with, then select Next again.

  3. Select Troubleshoot program (or you can select Try recommended settings to try that).

  4. Select the problem you're having and follow the process."

I ran the troubleshooter, told it this program ran on an older version but won't run now, did the test run through the troubleshooter, and then told it to .save.
