Literally go to the EA app and then click on the 3 lines in the top left corner and click on settings, then click on application and scroll down to where it says enable in game overlay! turn this off and your will be back playing the games in seconds! I can confirm. With Origin it works just fine. And with  the EA App you have to deactivate the Overlay and then the games (CnC, Red Alert) just start fine.

I found this thread after experiencing the same problem and doing my research in the web. Disabling the overlay helps, but the game still crashes after playing some time when I open the menu. Generating the crash report takes a couple of minutes and the report I see looks like this:

@NOJOTEK For those on Steam, I can confirn this fix does NOT work with the Steam launcher. Overlay is disabled, but I'm still getting the Petroglyph crash.
