  • Some game leaderboard stats may not transfer.

For further instructions and information on this process, please see the following thread: Merge Origin Accounts

16 - Purchasing issues

If you are encountering issues making a purchase with a card payment the following information may assist you in finding the cause of the issue.

  • Clear browser cache and files
The payment that you are trying to make may be affected by the web browser that you are using. Please clear your browser cache along with any temporary internet files. If you would like to know how to clear your cache, please visit this EA Help Center article.
  • Confirm registered Address details
Check to ensure that you have entered the correct address information in the payment field. The address will need to match the information that is registered with the card that you are using. If there is an address mismatch, this will cause an issue with making a successful payment.
  • Credit Card Verification code (CCV)
Make sure that you have input the correct series of numbers required for the CCV. If you are using a VISA or Mastercard, these numbers are located on the back of the card. Your 3-digit code will be the last three numbers on the right of the signature panel. If you are using an American Express card you will need a 4-digit code that can be found on the front of your card in the top-right corner.
  • Prepaid Credit Card users
If you are making a purchase with a Prepaid Credit Card, please make sure that you have registered the card online before using it. If you try to make a purchase with a card that hasn't been registered yet, the payment will not be successful. If you are unsure of how to correctly register your Prepaid Credit Card, please contact you card issuer directly.
  • Confirm current credit limit
Depending on the credit limit set for your card, you may not be able to initiate a payment if the limit has been reached. Even if the card you are using might not be scheduled to charge right away, a credit card that is at its limit may still not be authorized for payment.
  • Checking online restrictions
Online restrictions may apply to some credit cards. You may have made some successful online payments in the past; however it is possible that different restrictions may apply to a recurring subscription payment as opposed to a one time only payment. If this is a possibility with the card that you are using, please consider contacting your credit card company to check which restrictions there may be in place.

If you are continuing to experience issues with making a payment, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Support team for further assistance.

Additional information available here: We're sorry, but we can't perform transactions to this credit card.

20 - EA Online Pass - Online pass for older EA games is now discontinued.

Spoiler
What was the EA Online Pass?
Online Pass was a unique, one-time-use code included with new EA games that allowed EA players to access online features.  If the game was not purchased new, the online pass code might have been used already and the player would need to purchase a new Online Pass.

Do I still need an Online Pass to play multiplayer games online?
For new EA titles, Online Pass will no longer be needed or included.  Additionally, we are in the process of eliminating Online Pass requirements from existing EA games.  This process will take several weeks.  For some games, the prompt to enter an Online Pass code will no longer appear; for others, you will still need to download and install an Online Pass, but they will be available free of charge from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace or PlayStation Store.

When will specific games have their Online Pass turned off?
The latest releases of EA SPORTS games are the first. Over the next several weeks, Online Pass will either be removed completely, or will be available for free in the PlayStation Store and Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

Please note that our advisors will not be able to provide you an Online Pass code before that game's pass requirements are disabled.  We appreciate your patience.

Why did we decide to do this?
We listened to the feedback from players, and decided to do away with Online Pass. We hope that eliminating Online Pass will allow more people to play and enjoy EA games for a long time to come.

21 - How to Backup/restore your Origin games

Spoiler

If you've replaced a computer or operating system and want to back up your Origin games instead of having to download them again, all you'll need to do is backup and then later restore your titles.

  • Navigate to system-location C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games by heading to the Start menu, and then to Computer.
  • Copy the folder that shares the name of the game you'd like to back up--for example,Battlefield 4--to your new destination--such as another drive, like D:\Origin Games\Battlefield 4.
    • If you're trying to reinstall a game, then rename the folder anything--such as Battlefield 4X--in order to break its correct filepath.
 User-added image
  • Open, or download and install, Origin and log into the Origin client.
  • Head to Application Settings under Origin in the menu bar, select the Advanced tab, and choose the correct path for Downloaded Games.
  • Open the My Games window and then right click on Battlefield 4 and select Download.
 User-added image
  • Run through the installation process with the Download Now selection and a download progress bar will appear on the bottom your client. Clicking the %-bar will open the your active downloads.
User-added image
  • As soon as your game download is In Progress and you see data being downloaded, click the Pause button.
 User-added image
  • Open the installation destination folder for your games, found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games.
User-added image

  • Move or Cut all of the content from your backed-up folder--the one we told you to call Battlefield4X earlier--into the new Battlefield 4 folder.
    • Doing this will prompt you to overwrite files. Check the box "Do this for the next # conflicts" and select "Move and Replace."
User-added image
  • Once your files have completed moving, head back to the Origin download window and click on the download arrow.
    • After a short time the download will jump to a higher percentage, will finalize your "download," then install the game.
User-added image

Once all of this is done, you can delete the now-empty, older game folder--Battlefield 4X--and your game should be playable through Origin with most of your required registry settings.
