These files aren't encrypted unless you encrypted them.

If you can't delete them you have a permissions problem, or your hard drive is failing.

  • Press the Windows key and "X" at the same time > Click on "Command prompt (Administrator)" or "PowerShell (Administrator)"

  • In the CMD or PowerShell window, at the prompt type or copy:  takeown /F "xxxxxxxxxxxx"   (With the quotes. Replace the X with the full path to the Origin folder.) > hit "ENTER"

  • Go into the folder and delete the content.

  • Reboot.
  • Go here and download this version of the Origin installer.
  • Shut down your Antivirus real time scanner.
  • Run the "OriginSetup.exe" as an Administrator. (Right click the "OriginSetup.exe" > Run as an administrator.)

Hi @SteigerWildcat

Make sure you have removed all files and folders related to the installation Origin.

-manually uninstall Origin http://help.ea.com/en/article/manually-uninstalling-origin/

-run CCleaner http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-use-ccleaner-to-fix-pc-issues/

-then go in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin -delete this Origin folder

-clear Origin cache https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/origin-my-games-list-is-blank

-delete temp files: open the Start Menu and type %temp%  in the Search field  or click in the Run option in the Start Menu and type %temp% in the Run field.Press Enter and a Temp folder should open. You can delete all files found in this folder, and if any files are in use, they can be skipped.

-now you have to go to your recycle bin and clean so there will no longer Origin exist as a file.

-restart your machine.

-install Origin as administrator ,very important to do  https://www.origin.com/en-ie/download

Ok @SteigerWildcat

Perform a Clean Boot https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/FAQ/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/

Then go in Safe mode (Safe Mode is a special segment of Windows that runs with default drivers and settings, so it’s perfect for troubleshooting Wink) .

Once you enter Safe Mode, try to delete the problematic file/directory .

I wait your feedback mate.

I had this problem for years and just figured it out. Though one poster indicated that deleting and reinstalling Origin worked for them, I would have to do that each time Origin needed updating. This worked, but it sure was annoying to do for every update.

Here is my setup:

  1. I have Origin installed on a separate drive besides "C" drive. For me, it's on "D" drive, even though my Windows drive is "C".
  2. I'm using Windows 7 Pro.

Here is my fix:

  1. In "My Computer", right-click on "Local Disk (DStandard smile" [whatever drive you have it installed on] and choose "Properties".
  2. Select the "Security" tab.
  3. Below "Group or user names:" box, click on the "Edit" button.
  4. In the window "Permission for Local Disk (DStandard smile", click the "Add" button. We're going to add your user account to the user names.
  5. In "Select Users of Groups" window, in the "Enter the object names to select" box, type your user name and press "Check Names"
  6. This will give you a popup window. Just select your user account and press OK.
  7. Now, press "OK" to close the "Select Users or Groups" window.
  8. You will now be back to the "Permissions for Local Disk (DStandard smile" window. When you look at the permissions, you will see that "Full Control" is unchecked. Check "Full Control" and press "Apply".
    1. It may start applying changes to drive here [I can't remember exactly]. If it does, you may get some errors. That's not a problem. Just "OK" through each one.
    2. After this finishes, press "OK".
  9. This will take you back to the "Local Disk (DStandard smile Properties" window. Press "OK".
  10. Your "Properties" window should now be closed.

You do not have to restart Windows. Next, do the following.

  1. Completely close Origin. Don't just minimize to task bar or notification bar.
  2. Open Origin again.
  3. Press "Update Origin".
  4. You should be good to go!

Someone may be wondering, "Why didn't you just open Origin in Administrative mode?" Answer: I had tried that, and it didn't work. For some reason, Windows 7 is treating this setting and actually granting full access as different.
