When do pre-orders actually get charged? [ Edited ]

I have not yet been charged for my pre-order, and my understanding is that you get charged at launch, or a few days prior. However, I’m seeing a lot of people talking about getting “refunds” for their pre-orders and seeming quite certain they’ve already paid for the game. Does this differ depending on which platform/vendor you pre-ordered from, or whether you pre-ordered a physical copy as opposed to digital only?

While on the subject, I’m assuming it will charge whichever payment method is currently on file, as opposed to whatever it was when you placed the pre-order? I.e. if you have to update your payment information it won’t try to charge the old credit card that may be expired, etc.

Hey @cake404, if you pre-order on Origin we take the money about 10 days before the game releases because it's a pre-order and not a pre-purchase.
