I expect that it happens more often when using VPN. And so I do, often forgetting to disable it when opening Origin (O drops a loooot when play over VPN - then only game client which drops....)

Glad to be of help.

I think that Origin staff is still in the 1990s and didn't noticed that VPN is very much a must today. It doesn't really matter if you using it for better ping or circumvent spying and repressive censorship in your country (in my case), time to move on Origin.

Press Win+R, Enter cmd.exe, In the command window type "taskkill /F /IM origin.exe" and press enter. Origin should close and then you can open it again.

I have the same problem and I just followed those exact instructions and I'm still getting the 'Well, that didn't go as planned'. 

This is absolutely ridiculous, I shouldn't have to go through all this just to play the games I paid for, I'm fuming.
