Sims 4 constantly "finalizing"

★★★★★ Newbie

I have been trying to play The Sims 4 for two days now.
Everytime I open Origin, it starts scanning all the game files although I gave no command to do that. Then it's stuck in the "finalizing" phase and nothing happens for hours.
I tried to leave it on overnight, and in the morning Origin had closed itself (note that I am not able to terminate the program during "finalizing" otherwise, can't log off or anything) and when I launched it again....
You guessed right. It started "finalizing" again.

I had no problem in game and I always save before I quit. I have no idea why it's happening (but it's not the first time)

Re: Sims 4 constantly "finalizing"

@Annikayna  I'm guessing it didn't finish finalizing this time either?  I don't think it's possible while a game is finalizing, but see if you can repair the game: right-click on its icon in your Origin library to see the option.

You can also try toggling between offline and online modes.  Click on the Origin header and select Go Offline, which should stop Origin from trying to update any games.  If that doesn't work, quit Origin, take your computer completely offline (as in, turn off wifi and/or pull the ethernet cable), then launch Origin again.  Then you can go back online to see whether it helps.

Another easy thing to try is to pull your Sims 4 game folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts.  Occasionally, a mod or cache file in that folder seems to prevent an update from running properly.

The next step would be to clear the cache again and uninstall Origin "the hard way," then reinstall.

If that doesn't work, clear the cache and uninstall again, only this time, install a legacy version of Origin instead.  Here's the direct download link:

@Annikayna  Try clearing Origin's cache (Windows) or running the Origin reset tool (macOS).

If that doesn't help, please let me know which OS you're running, and which version.

@puzzlezaddict Hi thanks for the suggestion. I tried doing that and restarted Origin but it's going the same.
I'm running Windows - version 8.1
Thanks again!
