Origin wont download/install

★★ Novice

Origin stopped working and didn't want to open up no matter what I did, so I decided I'd uninstall and reinstall. Bad idea I guess. I've been trying to install it for forever now. I cleaned out all of the Origin files so there aren't any left. I ran a CCleaner and cleared out some stuff there too. I even tried a clean boot. It will let me download the client from Google, but after that it won't open at all. Even if I run as an administrator it won't budge. If it does happen to open with the Windows troubleshooter It's just a while box and that's all I get. I've included a screenshot below. There's more than enough space on my PC so that definitely isn't the issue. Any suggestions at all?? I feel like I've tried everything and at this point I'm highly frustrated. I just wanna play The Sims man.

Sorry to see that your Origin is not working @snailprobation, the best thing to try in this situation is to clear your Origin cache.

You can clear the Origin Cache by following the steps below:

  1. Completely log out and close down Origin
  2. Hold down the Windows key and R
  3. Type in "%ProgramData%" (without quotes) and click OK
  4. Now open the Origin folder.
  5. Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for LocalContent (do not delete this one)
  6. Hold down the Windows key and R
  7. Type in "%AppData%" (without quotes) and click OK
  8. This will take you to a Roaming folder, which is located inside of AppData. Delete the Origin folder
  9. Click on the word "AppData" at the top of your window
  10. Open the Local folder here
  11. Delete the Origin folder listed here
  12. Restart your PC and log back into Origin

Let me know how you get on

Hey @trunchable can you ensure that your firewall and anti-virus are not blocking Origin and that you also have the ports for Origin open.

The ports to open are:

  • TCP: 80; 443; 9960-9969; 1024-1124; 3216; 18000; 18120; 18060; 27900; 28910; 29900
  • UDP: 1024-1124; 18000; 29900

You can also try turning off the routers firewall to see if it helps.

If that does not work then can you take a little time to try the following steps:

  1. Try re-installing Origin:
    1. Close the Origin client.
    2. Open the Control Panel (find it by searching “Control Panel” in the Start menu).
    3. Click on Uninstall a program under Programs.
    4. Click on Origin and uninstall.
    5. Reinstall Origin

Try running Origin as an administrator:

  1. Close the Origin client.
  2. Right-click the Origin client icon on your desktop (or in the Origin directory if not on your desktop) and click Run As Administrator.

This runs the Origin client as an administrator account.

Try lowering the User Access Control settings:

  1. Close the Origin client.
  2. Click the Windows button and type "UAC" in the search field.
  3. In the User Access Control window, click and hold the slide bar —slide it to the lowest setting available.
  4. Click Ok at the bottom of the window.
  5. Open the Origin client
