Origin won't update

So I've been trying desperately to get Origin to go online so I can update Sims 4, but every time I click 'Go Online' it tells me that it entered me into offline mode because Origin requires a critical update. And of course, I tell Origin to install the update but it never finishes. The download window closes, and I end up repeating the process over and over again without achieving anything. Can anyone help? I've looked through other reports to try and find a solution, but all of the answers I found that EA had posted were no help at all.

@dkinard  Hi,

First off, please download the Origin installation file from here: https://www.origin.com/download

Next, please navigate to your download folder and right click the "OriginThinSetup.exe" file and choose "Run As Administrator".

If that still does not work, and the installation fails, please follow the below steps in exact order:

1. Manually uninstall Origin
2. Run CCleaner
3. Restart your router/modem and do a Clean Boot
4. Make sure that your UAC is enabled and set to notify
5. Download the latest version of Origin and install the client - make sure to run the setup file with Admin rights
6. Add firewall/antivirus exceptions for Origin and open the needed ports
7. When starting Origin, please make sure to run it as Administrator

Make sure you know where that file saves to.

Now do a Clean Boot.

Locate the file you downloaded, it's called "OriginThinSetup.exe

Right click on that file and choose Run As Administrator.

Did it work for you? As someone with no home internet this is crazy. If this problem has been going on for years why hasn't it been fixed or Origin just scrapped. It was easier when I could just download the game directly. I'm 2 hours into trying to download Sims 4 and I haven't even made it to the game yet. I'm about 10 minutes from requesting a refund and not coming back. I had no problem with Sims 1 & 2, SimCity, and a bunch of older games. Sims 3 I purchased and it disappears from origin and I can't play it anymore and now sims4 is impossible to even download.

Well, you can't really expect the money * EA to do anything to fix it. They are known for being the second worse game company out there (Next to blizzard).

Thank you, this actually did solve my problem.
However now my 9 origin points are completely gone, tbh it doesn't actually bother me but I thought I might as well point it out (no pun intended).
