Origin will not launch

★ Apprentice

Please help!

I reinstalled the program multiple times (and to delete the entire program I followed this site's tutorial: https://www.askvg.com/how-to-completely-uninstall-remove-a-software-program-in-windows-without-using...), running Origin as an administrator, troubleshooting compatibility (tried all the suggested Windows versions), deleting OriginThinSetup.exe. from the file location, https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/origin/origin/manually-uninstalling-origin/#uninstall-advancedand restarting my computer. It will not launch. It does launch on my HP laptop, but I'm trying to play on my new desktop (because my laptop can't handle all the mods that I download for Sims 4.)

I HAVE FIGURED OUT THE SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM.

If anyone is having a similar issue to my error, follow this:

  1. Go to your Origin file (for my case: This PC -> OS (or the C drive) -> Program Files (x86) -> Origin.)
  2. Scroll down till you see vcredist.
  3. Double-click on it. Click on Repair.
  4. Done! You should be able to log-in and run Origin with no problems.

For more information on this (or if you don't see vcredist on your screen), go to this thread:

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin-Client-Web-Technical/api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0-dll/m-p/6249227#...

Thank you to @yahel_1 and @EA_Darko for the help in this thread. It is greatly appreciated! Sorry for giving you guys a hard time. Large smile

@theblanktae What happens when you try to launch Origin? Does it crash, not open at all, do you see it running in your task manager or other?

It does not open at all, and I don't see it running in my Task Manager. However, I just saw a split-second glimpse of the Origin tab (but a blank screen) when I allowed Origin to open whenever my computer starts-up, but then it closes and it's back to square 1.

@theblanktae

Can you try reinstalling Origin to see if there is a difference?

  1. Try re-installing Origin:
    1. Close the Origin client.
    2. Open the Control Panel (find it by searching “Control Panel” in the Start menu).
    3. Click on Uninstall a program under Programs.
    4. Click on Originand uninstall.
    5. Reinstall Origin, then try installing your game again.

Try running Origin as an administrator:

  1. Close the Origin client.
  2. Right-click the Origin client icon on your desktop (or in the Origin directory if not on your desktop) and click Run As Administrator.

This runs the Origin client as an administrator account, and should let the game  install.

Try lowering the User Access Control settings:

  1. Close the Origin client.
  2. Click the Windowsbutton and type "UAC" in the search field.
  3. In the User Access Control window, click and hold the slide bar —slide it to the lowest setting available.
  4. Click Okay the bottom of the window.
  5. Launch Origin

Nope, didn't work.

Looking at other issues with this, I found out that @Fries4Lyfe's comment sort of worked:

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin-Client-Web-Technical/OriginThinSetup-exe-will-not-run/m-p/6906876/h...

I was able to view my games properly like how I used to back on my laptop.

(This gave me temporarily relief because I've been at this for a while.)

The program also showed up in my Task Manager (it was the 32-bit version though.)

However, I was unable to launch my game when the options of 'Launch Origin' or 'Download Origin' displayed. It never gave me a download to click on.

My Device System Type is a Windows 10, 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor. I have updated Windows.

I checked the Origin folders in the OS (C drive) ---> Program Files (x86) ---> Origin.

The only noticeable thing missing was OriginThinSetup.exe.

I just want to play my Sims 4.

Hi @theblanktae

Make sure you have removed all files and folders related to the installation Origin.

-manually uninstall Origin http://help.ea.com/en/article/manually-uninstalling-origin/

-run CCleaner http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-use-ccleaner-to-fix-pc-issues/

-then go in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin -delete this Origin folder

-clear Origin cache https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/origin-my-games-list-is-blank

-delete temp files: open the Start Menu and type %temp%  in the Search field  or click in the Run option in the Start Menu and type %temp% in the Run field.Press Enter and a Temp folder should open. You can delete all files found in this folder, and if any files are in use, they can be skipped.

-now you have to go to your recycle bin and clean so there will no longer Origin exist as a file.

-restart your machine.

-install Origin as administrator ,very important to do  https://www.origin.com/en-ie/download

NOTE if you encounter some problems launching Origin, perform a Clean Boot https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/FAQ/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/

Ok @theblanktae@fireworks77

Try to set Windows Defender to ignore the program/s (Origin and/or your game/s)

  • Go to Start  > Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Security > Virus & thread protection.
  • Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings, and then under Exclusions, select Add or remove exclusions.
The Add an exclusion option in Windows Security.
  • Select Add an exclusion, and then select from files, folders, file types, or process. The exclusion will apply to subfolders within a folder as well.

I wait your feedback.
