SOMEHOW IT WORKED
September 2019
It doesn't affect Keyboards or mice I use both and I had to disable the card reader and the Origin client worked. I still don't like having to disable things to get it work, but since EA can't seem to get it fixed I did it.

Today my Origin has updated to version 10.5.46.29856 - 0 and the problem unfortunately remains, and it is still necessary to remove the USB flash device. One thing that may be relevant to developers is that: After attempting to login with the usb device connected at least once, the Origin app will reset the previously saved authentication data (email and password). I have an idea. Can someone check it out. I can’t, I don’t have such a problem.
An idea essence:
Connect USB flash drive, USB HDD, SD card,.. etc, make sure that you have problem with Origin/EA login, close Origin.
Press win+r -> write services.msc -> OK/Enter -> and a) run or b) stop two services:
"Smart Card Device Enumeration Service" = ScDeviceEnum
"Smart Card" = SCardSvr
Start Origin and check login...

Thank you for working on this! I've looked through this feed for a long time and every solution is for a PC. I have a MAC and its doing the same thing. I hope me telling you I have a Mac will help too. I've tried everything I can think of to login.

@kbelair33 The current Origin issues in macOS are different than those in Windows, and so are the ways to troubleshoot. What version of macOS do you have? (To find out, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen and select About This Mac.) If you're still running Yosemite, it may help to download a legacy version of Origin. First though, do a clean uninstall to remove all traces of the current version of Origin from your computer. Here's how:
https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-uninstall-origin-on-a-mac/
You can download the legacy version from here:
https://www.dm.origin.com/mac/download/legacy
When installing, be sure to uncheck the box to automatically keep Origin and your games up to date, or else Origin will update itself to the current, nonworking version.
If you have a later OS, you can try these steps to troubleshoot. Start with an Origin reset, and if that doesn't help, make sure proxies are disabled. Instructions for each step are in this link:
