Follow the steps in the solution found by @Straatford87 from this link https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Origin-Blank-Screen/td-p/5723900 and i think you should be fine.
My Opinion is no more important or right than yours.I'm a gamer like you, trying to help you (i'm not an EA employee).

i tried one of the alternate solutions listed - to turn off adblock - and it seems to have worked! thank you so much!
EDIT: actually, the origin client is still not working but i was able to access a game from the website, which i was unable to do before so, uh. mostly fixed?

Ok @baroquepop
Make sure Time/Date is correctly set in your machine.
Clear DNS cache https://help.ea.com/en/help/pc/how-to-flush-dns-cache-for-windows/
Clear the browser cache: https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clearing-your-browsers-cache
Clear hosts file http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034
Restart your machine.
Run the setup file Origin with Admin rights http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-do-i-run-a-program-or-a-game-as-an-administrator/#2
NOTE if your issue persists try to reset (not restart) your modem, resetting your modem can fix gaming troubles, "can't get on the Internet" problems, port issues, wireless issues and device conflicts.
I wait your feedback.

What or how have you tried to make it work? Right off the top of my head there are a few things you can try and fix this, start with the simplest. Temporarily disable your anti virus auto detect / sonar then try to open Origin Client. Let us know if that works or not, take note on any differences that accrue while working with this issue.

Try to clear your Origin cache:
All settings in Origin (only in Origin not in the games) are back to default settings after this.)
- close Origin completely. (right click on the Origin symbol in the task bar > close)
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- Type or copy and paste "%ProgramData%/Origin" (without quotes) into the new window > hit ENTER
- Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for the "LocalContent" folder. (The "LocalContent" folder must remain untouched.)
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- Type or copy and paste "%AppData%" (without quotes) > hit ENTER
- Now your Windows explorer should have brought you to your "C:\Users\>your user name<\AppData\Roaming" folder
- Delete the "Origin" folder inside the "Roaming" folder
- In the address bar of your Windows explorer click on the word "AppData".
- Open the "Local" folder.
- Delete the "Origin" folder inside the "Local" folder
- Restart your PC. > test.

Oh, you beautiful, beautiful man! This works wonderfully! I did things a very slightly different though. I went into internet settings and just disabled my ethernet, put in my sign-in info, re-enabled ethernet and hit sign in (I may have pressed too fast and it was like I was still disconnected, but anyway..). It signed in offline mode, but all I had to do was click 'go online' and I was in.
Thank-You!
