Origin for Mac Catalina error "Games cannot be installed in this folder"

I am having problems with origin on Mac Catalina. When I first open Origin I get an error message saying "Games cannot be installed in this folder". When I go to My Game Library and press download to download the game I just purchased, I get an error message that says "Folder does not exist please choose another folder". Someone please help!

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble installing your game.

What is the location it is trying to install to? Click on Origin then Preferences in the menu bar. Under the Installs & Saves tab in the Origin window what is the install path under Game Library Location and Legacy Game Installers?

I can’t even click on preferences in the menu bar,  when I click on it, it doesn’t do anything. Also when I try to change the folder location when I click it, it doesn’t do anything.

Hi Tom, 

it is for the Sims 4, but I think the problem is with Origin itself and not the game. I was able to download origin and the sims 4 on a windows pc, it is not working for my macOS Catalina. Origin is not operating correctly, I can’t get to the preference settings in origin, and I get the games cannot be installed in this folder message as soon as I open Origin and sign on. When I click on change folder nothing happens, it does not allow me to choose another folder.

How about if you click on your account in the bottom left corner of the Origin window then Application Settings?

Game library location is /users/mark glinski/Applications

Legacy game installers is in /Library/Applications Support/Origin/DownloadCache

When I click the button to change folder the Mac cursor acts like it is loading something but nothing pops up.

Under Application Settings > Installation and Save,

I tried to change the default installation folder to external drives but when I clicked the button to change folders, no window appears.

It seems something is working (mouse pointer is wheeling) but nothing happened.

All this is happening under macOS Catalina.

Any help?

that’s exactly what mine is doing I’ve tried everything troubleshooting, re installing origin multiple times contacted EA help it does Nothing
