The problem is actually even worse. Some idiot programmer in EA decided it would a good idea to save a timestamp value called "ChatOnlineTimestamp" to xml file every time it updates... which is every second. What that awesome idea does, is triggering an update for the whole XML, effectively rebuilding and re-saving the whole XML every second and slowly killing our SSDs.
Well done EA... and now, that you know the problem, report this bug directly to the * who wrote it and FIX IT.

Yup, this should be very easy to fix but clearly there's no incentive...
Maybe a class-action lawsuit for unnecessary wear and tear for HDDs/SSDs would do the trick lol. There's gotta be at least 1 lawyer out there who's interested
Tens of millions of users are affected. Just $2 dollar compensation x 50million users = $100million

This is still an issue. Origin is constantly modifying this .xml file, and the noise it is making is driving me crazy.

LOL After 1 year it seems fixed - it's EA baby! LOL

Yep, I tried Origin today and it seems to be fixed. 10 minutes of work took them how long? A year maybe? Well, Good Job.
