Origin - Cannot install a game

★★★ Newbie

Origin cannot install Sims 4, download to 100% and fails at the end.

Tried reinstalling origin, redownloading sims 4 at least 3 times now.

Restarted and still no luck, tried running the downloaded C++ thing myself and installed but still nope.

Why isn't this working?

Sorry to hear that you are having issues @CForChrisProooo.

This issue is caused by running an out of date VC++ installation. It can be resolved by manually running the installer from the Origin installation folder - the default location for this folder is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin

From this folder, run one of both files:

  • vcredist_x86_vs2015 (for 32bit Windows version)
  • vcredist_x64_vs2015 (for 64bit Windows version)
  •

If you get the message that the files are already installed, select Repair instead. It is recommended to run the installer as administrator (right-click the file, select run as admin).

You can also find the latest files on the Microsoft website:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads

If the issue is still affecting you once you have done this then can you open your game install folder and in there find the folder named redist and from there manually install the file vcredist_x86.exe.

Just thought I'd mention, I did already try that and said so in the question. What ended up actually fixing it though was running those installers and setting them to UNINSTALL visual C++ completely and then allowing Origin to install them automatically. Kinda stupid imo, origin's a pain in the a$$ that assumes nobody in the world has already installed C++ for some reason like wtf?
