Just like the message says, you need to make sure that you've updated Origin client to the newest version in order to connect online
In this situation I would suggest to completely uninstall the application (the hard way is recommended) and simply download the latest version from our website.

That worked, my question now is why wouldn't it update, I closed out of it totally and it kept doing that?

Have you enabled the auto-update option for Origin in Application Settings?

Yeah, I had that checked and I have it checked again.
