I can't download Origin

I just turned 18 and got a brand new laptop, the Samsung Notebook 9 Pen 15'' w/ NVIDIA, and thought I should finally download the Sims 4 since I don't need my parents' permission anymore. However, my plans were ruined when I was unable to download Origin. I have followed every direction I could possibly find, from other questions and answers to the numerous guides both EA and Origin have. 

Here's what happens. I click the download button. It works. I click the file. I get 2 prompts. The first reads:

OriginThinSetup.exe - System Error

The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

The second reads:

OriginThinSetup.exe - System Error

The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP140.dll  was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

I have no clue what to do and would really appreciate some help. Thank you!

@swheatley5  Those files are part of the 2015 VC++ runtimes, which Origin needs to install properly.  It's best to uninstall your current copies, if you have any, and then download new ones from Microsoft.  Hit Windows key-i, select Apps, scroll down to Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable, click on both the x86 and x64 entries (if you have them), and select Uninstall.  You can download new copies here. Be sure to install both the x86 and x64 versions.

Restart your computer, and try to install Origin again.

Thank you for your help!

I am having another issue, however. I am downloading the Sims trial, and it just... stopped at 30% and it won't resume. The area where it says how much data has to be downloaded and the estimated time says 0 for both, but it's only 30% completed. Have you encountered this before?

@swheatley5  You can try clearing Origin's cache.  It will force the download to start from scratch, but it might work this time.

Other than that, you might need to open the ports on your router.  Instructions should be in the manual or online on the manufacturer's product page.  These are the ports you need to open:
