EA keeps giving my account to a hacker.

★★★ Newbie

I am at my wits end with this. I do not understand how a company as big as EA can have such a horrible security. I usually do not make posts such as this, but this is getting absolutely ridicilous. I think this is the final nail in the coffin for my decision to never purchase an EA game again (especially if it is on Origin). I have made this new account to specificly make this post.

It all started a while back (month or so). My account was hacked and my email was deleted. I tried several recovery forms to no avail (honestly it feels like the specialists on that department look for the specific information you created the account with and ignore any key product codes and etc, but that is entirely different topic). I have a friend in real life that is my friend on Origin who confirmed that my ID has been changed. So after a while, I managed to get in touch with my email provider and regain the email adress- with a completely new password not used anywhere. I immediately went to live support and got my account back. Together with the specialist, I did some security meassures so this would not happen again (no mention of login verification from the specialsit)

Yesterday (a day or less after recovering the account) I could not longer log into the account. So at this point I am confused. I have access to the email address and there are no emails regarding a password change or anything. So when i was available (basically at night), I once again contacted live support. This time I got a specialist with a western name (might not seem important, but he actually did not speak like a robot and had an actual conversation with me). We discovered that after my account was restored, another contact was made to EA support requesting account email address be changed to that of the hacker. Mind you, the first time I recovered my account I was told this email and asked if it was mine. I specificly said no. The specialist informed me that he wrote down notes on the case and this would be the final restoration of the account. He was very helpful and nice. When he sent my email address a verification code, I noted that the email addressed me by the same ID the hacker changed mine to the first time. So we proceed on the recovery process and I make sure to explain to the specialist that this is the same email address and ID that hacked me before. He makes sure to write this down in case notes. Step by step we restore the account, he asks me an ID, asks me to reset the password (I, once again, use a password that is not used anywhere else), date of birth and etc. Then he asked me to activate the login verification. I do so by SMS method (btw- the hacker also changed the phone number). The specialist seemed a bit surprised I was not advised to activate it the last time. I asked sever times if the hacker would be denied if he tried this again. The specialist assured me that he would be denied and this is the final time we update my information. So it was late at night. I thought i would try a bit of Sims 4, go to sleep and change email the next day. I also scanned my computer for any malware and did not find any threat.

So I woke up today, and I cannot log into my EA account. Thinking this is a mistake, I try the new password (that I wrote down) several times. I go to my email and see two unread emails from EA- one is a verification code from a specialist, another is a notification that my login verification is off. Mind you- these emails are unopened. I scanned for malware- nothing.

This entire situation is pathetic and a complete incompetence on EA's part. I do not understand how can you give my account away the second time if there are notes written on the case. How can EA not note the email hacker is using?? He should be denied the moment he asks to change it again. And this happens within a few hours after the restoration.  I could not even change the email in time.

I will contact live support again and restore my account, but at this rate it might get banned for changing ownership too often. I will either restore that account or ask all games to be transfered to this account. Either way, this post is simply an explanation how horrible EA's security is and I would love to know how can accounts be given away within hours of restoration to the owner of the email the account was created with.

Hey @spellslinger25 from your post it would appear that someone has access to your email account. If they are able to provide the verification code sent to your email then it means that they are able to see your emails.

The best thing to do is to begin by ensuring that your email account is secure and that no one but you has access to it. Once done, speak with our team again to gain access to your account.

I understand that, but it still does not explain the fact that the account is given away to the same email who has hacked me. The email was written on the case notes. The moment this person requested account email be changed to that email address, he should have been denied immediately.
