I’ve always had my games stored in an external hard drive. I have about 200 GB worth of space on the external hard drive. Ever since I updated to Mac Catalina, Origin claims that I can now no longer save to the external hard drive because it is not mounted. Everything is connected properly though.
My impatience prompted me to hit restore default, but I really don’t want to have my Game Library on the internal drive, since I only have 29 GB of free space on there.
Every single time I press “Change folder” on Origin, it just leads nowhere. It won’t let me change the folder for Game Installation. I don’t understand why Origin won’t let me change the folder for installs! This is really aggravating.
UPDATE 10/18: It still doesn't work. I've chatted with two representatives and no solution worked. They've basically told me to twiddle my thumbs and wait for an update. One said the update would occur in a few hours, but nothing has worked since I chatted with him. This is really frustrating...
UPDATE 10/20: After a chat with a third representative, this issue got moved up to specialists. Unfortunately, the ultimate result is to wait for the update. Hang tight guys. This has something to do with the Catalina’s security, as it won’t let Origin edit files. Let’s hope that update comes soon, and is bug-free.
UPDATE 10/24: I think there was a small update to Origin, but the issue of changing game libraries has not been fixed yet. This is really driving me nuts. If it continues this way, I will contact them again to see what other options are because this is getting a bit ridiculous.
If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know. I am not allowed to revert back because this is also my work computer.

SOLUTIONS:
1. Since I back-up my computer once a month, I was able to revert back to Mojave to change the location of the Game Library, update the games, and then update back to Catalina. Everything is working! Thankfully, all my work data and applications were saved on the cloud so I didn't risk losing any data. Keep in mind, this is a LONG solution to wait for, so I managed to finish it over the weekend before it was time to get back to work.
2. Twiddle your thumbs and wait for an update.
3. @dzm06 mentioned a solution as well, but this could be tricky. I personally didn't try this since I was already undergoing backup restoration when I saw this. https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/I-having-troubles-with-Origin-on-the-Mac/m-p/8354749#...
4. I read on another forum post that you could bypass security features on Catalina, but that will compromise the security of your computer. I was told that this could work, but this solution is not highly recommended.

I'm still having this issue and now with the new Legacy Sims 4 requirements we have to have Catalina to play the new games. What are you doing? Have you found a better solution?

@ZimBobba The issue is still not fixed in Origin. But you can try this:
If your copy of the file doesn't have the line referenced, you'll need to add it manually.
