Can 2 people in the same house play same game at the same time?

I feel stupid, but I can't figure out how to play with 2 players!   I have two excited boys wanting to play against each other side by side on the same TV and not online.  Is there not a way to do this?

@Gavitronix07 Hey, with 2 controllers connected you should be able to start up the game, then choose to play a match from the main menu. 

Were they able to play a match since making this post? Perhaps there was a temporary glitch and restarting the system before trying fresh will help.
