Sims: New Game does not display Sims in CAS

[ Edited ]
★★★ Newbie

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.96.365.2030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? High School Years, Cottage Living, Eco Livestyle, Discover University, Get Famous, Seasons, Cats & Dogs, City Living, Get Together, Get to Work; Dream Home Decorator, Realm of Magic, Jungle Adventure, Parenthood, Dine Out, Spa Day, Outdoor Retreat; Tiny Living, My First Pet, Laundry Day, Fitness, Backyard Stuff, Vintage Glamour, Movie Hangout, Cool Kitchen; Holiday Celebration Pack
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Open Game; Klick "New Game"
What happens when the bug occurs? The Screen shows the background image of CAS in the top third of the screen, below is a black background. All Buttons related to CAS are "Unavailable while creating a Sim's story". (please see attached SS01_TS4_CASBug.png)
After klicking the X button in the bottom right corner and choosing "Cancel Sim's Story" the buttons for traits, aspiration and adding new sims become clickable again (view also SS02_TS4_CASBug.png), the issue of the background image and non displayed sim however remain.
When clicking "Add Sim" and choosing "play with genetics" the menu is displayed with certain icons missing, buttons in wrong places and placeholder text (xxxxxxxxx) instead of the button-description. (SS03_TS4_CASBug.png)
Choosing any other option from the "Add a Sim" conext menu (except add Sim from gallery) lead to no noticable reaction. Replacing the current household with one from the gallery via the "Add a Sim" context menu or the gallery button result in the amount of sims and their traits and aspirations displayed, the Sim itself and preview images in the bottom left however are missing (I do have a screenshot but am unable to upload it via this form. It can be provided later on if necessary.).
Disabling my mods (MC Command Center and MC Woohoo) as well as restarting the game did not result in any change.

What do you expect to see? I expect to see a full background image, a Sim in the middle of the screen and the Create a Sim's Story quiz. After clicking "Cancel Sim's Story" I expected the new Sim to turn up in the middle of the screen and for the menues of Adding a Sim by genetics to be displayed in the correct way.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. downloaded the most recent Sims update and added the newest versions of MC Command Center and MC Woohoo to my Mod Folder. To be 100% honest I might have done so while the game was updating, as I was not aware that the download of the newest update had already started.

HI @k4rt0schka

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by clicking on the dots in EA app.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

  • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
  • Tray Folder
  • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
  • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
  • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
  • ConfigOverride, if you have your own configuration files.
  • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

Good Luck
