Thanks to all of your posts, I was able to narrow the cause of "Mass Effect Servers Unavailable" down to my cable network modem. Since I had re-installed a brand new operating system and then re-installed origin and mass effect only to have the same problem, that left the cable modem. I had updated some settings right before the server problems and we had a brief power outage. Anyway, THE FIX IS TO RESET YOUR ROUTER, or go through it and disable anything you are blocking (parental controls, devices, ports). I was not even done changing the settings on mine back when I started getting friend notifications again. Sure enough, I jumped on and connected right away.
