2014 - still an issue. I have very limited internet and can just manage an e-mail because of the area I live in. Registering is a pain but I can live with it. Steam is ok.
I called the live chat and again and again and again they've sent me a code and told me that I can now download it - I've smashed stuff up in my house but responded politely THAT I DON'T WANT TO DOWNLOAD IT - I PAID EXTRA FOR THE DISC AS I WANT TO LOAD IT OFF THE DISC. Oh, well you'll need a specialist to contact you in 10 days! Specialist? here's your code - you can download it from Origins now. I run next door and smash up their house, come back and, very politely explain that I WANT TO LOAD IT OFF THE DISC. 10 days later - and on and on.
I have today reported them to Trading Standards - they've sold a disc that cannot work. I urge you to report them to trading standards too. The more the merrier.
EA - shame on you - you've sold a disc that cannot be used - I'm pretty smart and I can't work it out, and even if there is a way hidden somewhere on this website, even the live help people didn't know about it.
I will look out of games that use origin or are made by EA and I will avoid. I wish I'd bought Skyrim (I since have, and it works straight away).

Utterly ridiculous. Last time I buy anything from EA games - how can it be right that a bought game simply does not work and EA are aware of the problem and fail to fix it for 3 years!
August 2015
I also bought a physical copy of Mass Effect 3 and when I tried to install it, it would not allow me to because of the same reason as above - the product code is in use. But how can it be in use, when you were solving it a couple of years ago?

I'm just here to chime in that I'm in the exact same situation. Bought the Trilogy (since it appears they will never make a complete one with all DLC) and when to install it. Used the Activation Code when first installing ME1 and now at ME3 it's saying that I can't use that code and can't install from disc. Meaning I have to download it all. What a load of bull. It's 2015 man, how is this even still an issue?
February 2016
2016 - still can't install from disc. Pathetic.
February 2016
2016, still have this problem. 7zip can't manually extract the files from the disc either. With metered internet I simply can't install and play this game. Pathetic

3/6/2016 AND IT'S STILL A PROBLEM.
I have the exact problem with Mass Effect 3
IF I WANTED TO DOWNLOAD THE GAME. I WOULDN'T F***** BOUGHT THE DISK !
FIX THIS S*** ALREADY !!!!!!
July 2016
Summer 2016, still not fixed. Obviously EA doesn't have the quad to fix this.

Still?!
February 2017 - last edited February 2017
Lol, it is February of 2017 - i.e about 5 years passed, and NO ONE even tried to fix the issue, they are still "working on it"? Pathetic!
They shall stop selling Mass Effect 3 (Trilogy) until the issue is completely fixed, the issue is a breach of consumer rights.
