[Solved] [PC] Kasumi: Stolen Memory DLC Crashing at the end of loyalty mission.

The ME2 DLC Kasumi: Stolen Memory is crashing at the end of the loyalty mission.

I have no trouble doing the mission itself, but when I get to the mission summary and want to press [EXIT] the screen goes black (not blank) and it crashes to desktop, everytime at the same place.

I checked on the old board for any solutions and it seems they found 1, but it isn't working for me.

Old board thread of the problem: http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/2452757/1.

I've tried everything that thread suggested and even the "add parameter" fix didn't work. They seemed to think that the problem was that the game was trying to use a loading screen that wasn't there. So my next step is trying to replace that loading screen with another one. Though I think it won't work.

I've contacted the Support but the problem was forwarded to the game specialists, they would look into the problem. But that can take years, especially since this problem was noticed 3 years ago and still no official fix of the problem.

Now I am trying to get some attention here so we can hopefully fix this problem (somehow) otherwise hope I can get my money back, don't want to pay for anything that wont work.

There is another thread that posted the same problem, but not much attention to it.

[Edit: clarification] Step 6 of the following solution should be sufficient to fix the problem at hand. (You don't need to preform the other steps.) Best course of action is to create that shortcut on the Desktop and run the Game from there.

Here is a more detailed description:

Go to the ">drive<:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect 2\Binaries" folder and right click on the "MassEffect2.exe" > send to > Desktop (create shortcut).

Now go to the Desktop and right click the shortcut > Properties.

Click in the "Target" field and then use your right arrow key to bring the cursor to the end of this line (directly after the quote mark (") ). Copy and past this:

-nomoviestartup" without the quote but with the space before the (-) in the "Target line. Should look that way:   ...Binaries\Win32" -nomoviestartup
Click "OK" and start the game from the shortcut on your desktop.

(Note: If it is not working for the "MassEffect2.exe" create a shortcut to the "ME2game.exe" and add the line there.)

This should also work for crashes at the end of the Shadow Broker DLC.

For Steam users the solution is in this post.

I was able to do it now without crashing! Here is what I did:

  1. Uninstall with revo uninstaller (or similiar programs) to remove all the files for me2
  2. Install everything from the CD (or download from origin if you don't have the physical edition)
  3. Stop all the dlcs from download via origin.
  4. download all DLCs from https://social.bioware.com/user_entitlements.php
  5. install DLCs via the installers you downloaded in step 4. If promted by windows "This program might not have been installed correctly" press "Reinstall using recommended settings"
  6. Make a shortcut from Masseffect2.exe in the Binaries folder of your mass effect 2 folder.  Add in target the parameter "-nomoviestartup" without the quoatation marks " and after \MassEffect2.exe" so in the end it will look like this at the end: "\Binaries\MassEffect2.exe" -nomoviestartup (just so it is right)
  7. If "awc.dll failed to load" comes up, just go into origin and right click on Mass Effect 2 and press repair.
  8. Play and hopefully it will work.

I don't know why it worked now but hey, I'm not complaining^^.

Running the game executable with -nomoviestartup (step 6 in bartch's answer) solved the problem for me.

My problem was a consistent crash when exiting the mission summary screen at the end of Kasumi's mission. Game installed through steam, DLCs from Bioware's site.

I'm using Steam.  I've found the .exe but when I go to properties I don't see where I can edit the Target as usual.  I'm running as admin.

You change the in steam when you go into properties and then "set launch options", that could work.

Bartch is right works right, I think I see what it does, it gets rid of all the loading screen movies as well, so the missing file he mentioned isnt sought after and the games goes back to the ship. Just put a shortcut on my desktop with the command line -nomoviestartup and after clicking exit on the summary screen boom on the ship. :D

None of this is working for me. Installed ME2 + DLC via Origin on Win 8.1, crashes whenever exit Kasumi loyalty mission summary, Tried reinstalling DLC from Bioware SocialNetwork downloads, repairing game in Origin, and running w/ "-nomoviestartup" option. Still crashing. There is no place to save or abort the mission either - every time you have to repeat the fight against Donovan's armor, and then help Kasumi destroy the grey box to get to the end and crash again. Grrr.

Well I might as well share my solution. I actually had to make a shortcut but for ME2Game.exe with the added modifier: -nomoviestartup. I didn't have to reinstall anything. Making a shortcut t MassEffect2.exe or changing launch options in Origin did not help.

Hope this helps

I tried a number of solutions on here and none with any success.  Since the only save file I had was from during the mission, I had no way to back out without starting from scratch.  What I finally had to settle for was using the modified Gibbed editor (http://social.bioware.com/project/4373/) on the Save File to grant me the rewards (primarily Kasumi's loyalty) and try to clear the mission off the books.

I used an auto-save just before the final fight with Donovan Hock (at the point where the shields are down):

Get Shepard Off the Planet:

Under Raw > 1. General > Base Level Name

I changed the value to BioP_Nor which sets us back to the Normandy map

Also, under Raw > 2. Squad > Player Position

I changed each of the X, Y, and Z variables to 0

This had the effect of putting Shepard back on the Normandy safely

Get Kasumi's Loyalty:

Under Plot > Henchmen

Select Kasumi is loyal

Mark the Mission as Complete in Journal:

Under Raw > 3. Plot > ME2 Plot Table > Quest Progress > open Collection with ...

Upon getting the PlotQuest Collection Editor, there will be a list of Members on the right which correspond to entries in your Journal, complete or incomplete.  I had to try to figure out which of the quests listed there was the one for Kasumi: Stealing Memory.  Using the autosave at that point in the quest, I was at the sixth "part" of the quest (each line in the Journal within the mission apparently counts as a part).  With PlotQuest Collection Editor window open, select one of the Members and then click on the History line in the right side, then on the ... button to expand the collection.  This will open the Int32 Collection Editor and show a list of Members, with apparently one corresponding to each "part" of a mission.  In this scenario, I had to find one that had six entries.  This does not mean an entry with the number six as with most, they start counting from 0.  In my case, this mission was number 26 (yours will probably be different).  For some missions, each entry here had a value that matched the entry number (0:0, 1:1, 2:2, etc) but that was not universally the case.  For this mission, the entries DID follow that pattern and I suspect that it will be the same.  So upon identifying the correct mission, I added a new entry at the bottom and assigned it a value of 6.

Note that this did NOT eliminate the mission from the Galaxy Map.  I haven't found a solution for that yet, but I may try.  If you try to go back to the planet, I'm not exactly sure what will happen.

Once all is done, I saved it as a new save file using the format of the other numbered filenames (but prior to the highest-numbered one) and opened it up in game.

Obviously, the ideal solution is for there to be a fix for this but this much got me back up and running and I figured it might help someone else out if they were in the same position.
