Mass Effect 2 won't launch from Origin. After I click Play, Origin minimize and the open again.

Last time I played the game, my pc freezes in the middle of mission. I push every button on the keyboard nothing happens. So I turn off my pc. After I restarted my pc and tried opening again, then it happen until now.

Ok, try this:

  • Make sure Origin is completely closed.

  • Go to "C:\Users\>your username>\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2" and move the "Save" folder and the "BIOGame" folder to your desktop.
(Just to make this clear, the named folders must be gone from the "C:\Users\>your username>\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2" path.)

  • Go to ">drive<:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect 2\Binaries" and move the "MassEffect2.exe", the "MEGame2.exe" and the "MassEffect2Config.exe" (the last one could also be a level higher) to your desktop.

  • Go to "">drive<:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect 2" and delete the "data" folder.

  • Start Origin > in the ME2 Game library click on "Download" again > after the installation finished > reboot.

  • Test.

Edit:Typo

Try to repair the game. (in Origin > Game Library > right click ME2 > Repair)

If that don't works, create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply.

If you use Windows 7 also go to your Reliability monitor > Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time and copy and paste or type "perfmon /rel" (without the quotes) in the new Window > hit “ENTER” and look if it has entries for the game you have trouble with.

If yes double click at the last entry for the game executable, copy the info to the clipboard, and save it to a text file.

You can attach the DxDiag text file you created (and the “Reliability monitor” text file as well) to your post in the “Reply” window with the “Choose File” button.

Try ‘this:

  • Rename the ‘MassEffect2.exe’ to ‘MassEffect2Launcher.exe’
  • Rename the ‘ME2Game.exe’ to ‘MassEffect2.exe’

  • Test.

There is no sound driver found on your system.

Reinstall your Sound drivers from dell. > Reboot > Test.

If that don't works, go here and follow this guide. After you used the "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff" command, test the game.

If the game works after that do enable DEP again with "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn" and get back to us.

Then we can show you a way to turn DEP off only for ME2.

Ohh I use Bluetooth speakers, the sound works fine.

I'll try your suggestion. I'll get back to you on Monday.

Thanks.

used the "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff" command. But it says: "An error has occurred setting the element data. The value is protected by Secure Boot policy and cannot be modified or deleted."

Should I proceed and test the game?

You can try, but it probably will not work.

You would need to disable Secure boot in your BIOS. Do you know how to do that in your Motherboard's BIOS?

In the meantime:

  • Press the Windows key and "X" at the same time.
  • Choose "PowerShell" (Adminisrator)" or "Command prompt (Administrator)"
  • In the "PowerShell" or "CMD" window, at the prompt, type or copy and paste "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" (Without the quotes) > ENTER

After the process finished successful, run the Windows System File Checker Sfc /scannnow and post the concluding message.

I disabled Secure Boot from BIOS.

After I hit Enter for "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" it says:

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.17134.1

Image Version: 10.0.17134.345

After I hit Enter for "Sfc /scannnow" it says:

Microsoft (R) Windows (R) Resource Checker Version 6.0
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

Scans the integrity of all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with
correct Microsoft versions.

SFC [/SCANNOW] [/VERIFYONLY] [/SCANFILE=<file>] [/VERIFYFILE=<file>]
[/OFFWINDIR=<offline windows directory> /OFFBOOTDIR=<offline boot directory> [/OFFLOGFILE=<log file path>]]

/SCANNOW  Scans integrity of all protected system files and repairs files with problems when possible.
/VERIFYONLY Scans integrity of all protected system files. No repair operation is performed.
/SCANFILE Scans integrity of the referenced file, repairs file if problems are identified. Specify full path <file>
/VERIFYFILE Verifies the integrity of the file with full path <file>. No repair operation is performed.
/OFFBOOTDIR For offline repair, specify the location of the offline boot directory
/OFFWINDIR For offline repair, specify the location of the offline windows directory
/OFFLOGFILE For offline repair, optionally enable logging by specifying a log file path

e.g.

sfc /SCANNOW
sfc /VERIFYFILE=c:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll
sfc /SCANFILE=d:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll /OFFBOOTDIR=d:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\windows
sfc /SCANFILE=d:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll /OFFBOOTDIR=d:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\windows /OFFLOGFILE=c:\log.txt
sfc /VERIFYONLY
