Mass Effect 2 stops working every time I try to land on Illium...any help?

Everything else in the game works fine, but every time I click "land" on Illium I head the beep of an error on my desktop (the message disappears when I close ME before I can read it) and the proceeding loading screen just goes on forever.

Anything I can do? I've gone back to the normandy, done some other quests etc. and every time I try Illium again the same thing happens.

When a crash always occurs at the same spot, it likely means data corruption. If you have the game on Origin, you can right click the game and repair the installation. If not, you can fix the issue by reinstalling the game.
