I was crashing near the end of the car chase using all suggestions here with -nomoviestartup, shortcuts, etc.

I went back and launched from the Origin app, and it worked.

go in this directory:

Mass Effect 2 \ BioGame \ DLC \ DLC_EXP_Part01 \ Movies

and move the file named "EXP_Part01_CarCrashBink.bik" into the movie folder of the game right here:

Mass Effect 2 \ BioGame \ Movies

The crash only happens if you watched Shadow Broker video recording in the room with Feron.
So i fixed this issie by doing this
1)Do everything possible in Shadow Broker room, walk towards the exit, make a quick and separate save files

2)Turn video setting to full screen.

3)Restart the game
4)Load quick save - you should be standing in front of the exit door still
5)Change video setting to Windowed (borderless window doesnt work)
6)Try exiting to the Normandy.

If doesnt help - try again. It works for me 3 times out of 5.

This didn't work for me for the chase scene and it wasn't necessary for the Shadow Broker DLC. It will work for some but not all. It got me through the Kasumi Goto mission. What I finally did was create the ME2Game shortcut then I right clicked on the shortcut. From there:

Properties>compatibility>run this program in compatibility mode

Then in the drop down menu I selected Windows 7. This worked for me and I was able to use all the graphics enhancements I wanted without any crash. I even removed " -nomoviestartup" from the target and it still ran perfectly well. IDK, might help if the crash continues.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - Shadow Broker DLC Crash

I don't remember any problems when I played this the first time round, however, what a nightmare this time!

MY FIX was based on all of the data presented from all of these entries - thanks everyone! :-)

My System

  • I7-10700k
  • 32GB
  • Sabrent M2 PCIe 2TB SSD
  • Nvidia RTX2070
  • 2 x Samsung 4K UHD screens running 3840 x 2160
  • Origin
  • W10

My Fixes for Shadow Broker DLC.

  • Door under Liara's office
    • Open the masseffect config.exe file & set the graphics to:
      • borderless window
      • 1920 x 1080 resolution
      • I left everything else on full
      • Save the settings
    • Create the desktop shortcut using the file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect 2\Binaries\ME2Game.exe" & use the -nomoviestartup option
    • Load the game
    • Goto the door
    • WALK through the door & STOP when the advert is triggered
    • Once the advert has finished continue to WALK down the corridor slowly
    • Save immediately that the next door opens
    • Re-set your graphics to their normal values (which for me is 3840 x 2160) & continue play

This worked for me although I had also disabled 'Autosave' from a previous attempt & had not re-enabled it.

  • Hover Car Chase
    • Open the masseffect config.exe file & set the graphics to:
      • borderless window
      • 1920 x 1080 resolution
      • I left everything else on full
      • Save the settings
    • Start the game using the file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect 2\Binaries\MassEffect2.exe" DO NOT USE the -nomoviestartup option
    • Play the chase through to the end
    • Save the game once you have landed on the balcony
    • Re-set your graphics to their normal values

At this point the game played right through to the shadow Broker's Lair for me & I was able to return to the Normandy properly.

I hope this helps.  Good Luck!

I had this problem, as well as the crash at the end of Kasumi Goto's Loyalty mission.  Short answer fix:  load the final part of the mission and finish it on an older computer.  I have a powerful gaming computer, and decided to  play this series again (for the 4th time).  It wasn't until I started playing with a powerful computer that I began to have problems.  I also noticed other players having problems while playing with newer, higher performing computers.

I just switched back to my older HP and easily played these missions through...no glitches, no freezing.   I saved, and then went back to my gaming computer.  I am playing through ORIGIN.  Good luck

Crash at the end of Kasumi's loyalty mission and when leaving the Shadow Broker's Ship  Link[edit]

Use Kasumi Crash Fix[19]

  1. Navigate to <path-to-game>\Binaries\
  2. Download ME2's binkw32 proxy DLL and extract it there
  3. Create a new folder named asi (i.e. <path-to-game>\Binaries\asi\)
  4. Download the fix and extract it there
